Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen had little trouble as South Africa chased down the target in 38.5 overs with 8 wickets in hand. Du Plessis finished on a 114-ball 112* as South Africa go 1-up in the ODI series. The victory was set up by Imran Tahir, who returned 3 for 26 from his 10 overs. But for all of South Africa's clinical show it was as much about Sri Lanka's below-par performance with the bat, ball or on the field. A lot of work remains to be done for the visitors.

Faf du Plessis may have been the best No 4 going around but coming in to bat at No 3 today, he has stroked a fine century - his 11th in ODI cricket- to take South Africa to the cusp of a comfortable victory in the first ODI.

Sri Lanka finally manage to get a breakthrough. Akila Dananjaya traps Quinton de Kock legbefore. The 'keeper-batsman takes a review but in vain. South Africa 150 for 2.

Quinton de Kock has hit seven of his last 12 balls for boundaries and within no time raced to 79.

Ngidi strikes again. Upal Tharanga looks to go for an expansive shot only to inside edge the ball back on to the stumps. South Africa are on top already!

STRIKE 1 Niroshan Dickwella began with two boundaries off the first two balls of the match but falls early. Looking to be on the aggressive, he ends up hitting straight to Lungi Ngidi, the bowler.

Much like South Africa, Sri Lanka are also fielding a debutant. Oshada Fernando makes his debut.

Sri Lanka (Playing XI): Niroshan Dickwella (w), Upul Tharanga, Oshada Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Dhananjaya de Silva, Thisara Perera, Akila Dananjaya, Lasith Malinga (c), Vishwa Fernando, Lakshan Sandakan

Anrich Nortje is set to make his debut for South Africa. Hee has impressed with his pace in domestic competitions and now it is time to test his skills at the highest level. Dale Steyn has been rested for this encounter. With Dwaine Pretorius and Wiaan Mulder playing, South Africa have six bowling options for this game.

South Africa (Playing XI): Reeza Hendricks, Quinton de Kock(w), Rassie van der Dussen, Faf du Plessis (c), David Miller, Wiaan Mulder, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Imran Tahir, Lungi Ngidi

South Africa won the toss and elected to field.

Hello and welcome to the first one-dayer between Sri Lanka and South Africa. Sri Lanka surprised quite a few by cleaning up the Test series 2-0. For as much as they would want to emulate the result in the 50-over series, there are bigger goals to look at.

By the very standards that the two teams have set for themselves, they are far behind. And with the world cup only a few months away, there are some massive fixes both teams need to do apart from finding their best XIs.
