Angelo Matthews won the toss and is mostly the case in Colombo, decided to give the Sri Lankan fans an early chance to see Mahela and Sanga in action. The injured again Senanayake was replaced by Dilruwan Perera. England and Alastair Cook, in particular, will play for pride. With their defeat in Pallekele last time around, they lost their fourth ODI series of 2014. They replaced Ravi Bopara and Steven Finn with Alex Hales and Harry Gurney.

Colombo sees Mahela and Sanga in action for the last time. It's also Dilshan's 300th ODI game for Sri Lanka.

Although it is a dead rubber, the 7th ODI will hold a lot of significance for the hosts as this will be the final time Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara take the field in an ODI game at home. Sri Lanka will be hoping to make it a memorable farewell for the legends by making it 5-2, while England will be eager to salvage some pride in what has been yet another below-par series for them.

Weather:

A curtailed day is a possibility as rain is forecast in the evening and late night. With no reserve day for the final ODI, weather might play spoil-sport to Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara's home farewell.

Numbers

79: The number of runs Kumar Sangakkara requires to become the first player to score 500 runs in a bilateral ODI series. Rohit Sharma, who scored 491 runs in the series against Australia in 2013, tops the list.

1: The number of fifty+ scores for Alastair Cook in 2014. He has played 19 innings so far this year and has scored just 491 runs at an average of 27.27.

The Sri Lankan openers, Mahela Jayawardene and TM Dilshan put on a brisk fifty run partnership for the opening wicket as Sri Lanka reached 55 by the eighth over. Both the openers

Mahela Jayawardene hit Harry Gurney straight down the throat of the fine-leg fielder, Chris Woakes. A short hit-me-ball on the leg stump went off the bottom of MJ's blade to the fine-leg fielder who didn't have to move an inch to complete the catch.

The Premadasa stadium gave Mahela, a standing ovation as he walked of having played his final innings in front of his home fans. As one legend walked off, another walked in - Kumar Sangakkara.
