Although the second day of England's second tour game against Cricket Australia XI was marred by the injury of paceman Jake Ball, their standpoint in the match was still healthy with the tourists having ended the day with a 65-run lead with all their wickets in hand. By the time the third day's action concluded, England had consolidated their dominance further by knocking the wind out of CA XI, reducing them to 70 for 7 in their pursuit of 268.

England's second essay with the bat started off on a positive note with openers Alastair Cook and Mark Stoneman putting up a sprightly 79-run stand.
