New Zealand win; Bangladesh take home the series 3-2

Despite Afif Hossain's valiant, undefeated 49, Bangladesh slipped to a 27-run loss in the fifth and final T20I versus New Zealand in Dhaka. Finn Allen (41), Tom Latham (50*) and the bowlers were the architects of New Zealand's victory.

New Zealand chip away

McConchie dropped Mahmudullah in the 14th over. The veteran aptly made New Zealand pay by clubbing the bowler for two sixes in that over. However, in an attempt to hit the accelerator pedal, Mahmudullah perished to Kuggeleijn in the 16th over. Ajaz then removed Nurul.

At the end of 17th over, the required run rate is over 16. Herculean task for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh mounting a comeback?

Despite losing four wickets, Afif Hossain is playing with a touch of freedom. He flicked and drove Sears to lift Bangladesh. The experienced Mahmudullah is at the other end. Can the hosts mount a comeback?

Serious pace

With his unorthodox action, Ben Sears is renowned for extracting serious pace and extra lift. He has just done that in only his second game. Naim could only edge it to Latham behind the stumps.

New Zealand gain upper hand

Naim and Liton played the occasional pull and flick but it was a rather cautious start from the duo. In an attempt to up the ante, Das attempted to hit Ajaz inside-out but could only spoon a catch to backward point.

Soumya then sliced a cut to backward point where Ravindra pouched an excellent diving catch. The visitors slowly gaining upper hand.

Perfect finish for New Zealand

What a great finish for Latham and New Zealand! The New Zealand skipper ended with an undefeated 50 off 37 while Cole McConchie gave him good support as the pair strung together a timely stand of 43 off just 21 balls.

161 could be a competitive total.

Crucial stand

Latham and Nicholls stitched a crucial stand of 35 to prop up the innings. However, Taskin lured Nicholls to drive at one outside off and was dismissed. Five down.

De Grandhomme goes

A poor series for the New Zealand allrounder and it's ended with a score of 9. Before this game, he had scored nine runs in four matches with two ducks. Nasum Ahmed gets the wicket this time.

Afif Hossain strikes

New Zealand losing their way a bit. First they lose two wickets in a single over and now Afif Hossain has removed Will Young. From being 58 for no loss, they are now 71 for 3 in nine overs.

Sixth over. Plenty of drama and action

Allen continued to use the pace of Shoriful and ended up clubbing him over backward square leg. Just that, against the run of play, Ravindra fell to Shoriful. Allen then successfully reviewed an LBW decision. The batter had shuffled across the stumps but it was pitching out the line of leg-stump.

Just when everyone thought Allen would get through the over safely, Shoriful castled the aggressive opener. This time, the shuffle didn't help.

The bowler has the last laugh!!

Reprieve and flurry of shots

Ravindra was dropped at deep midwicket off Nasum. Finn Allen then took over by thwacking a six and a four in the same over. Just the kind of reprieve New Zealand needed.

Allen and Ravindra also smacked Shoriful for three fours and a six with New Zealand collecting 19 runs in a single over.
