Over the last few months, Sri Lanka have found themselves on the right side of results, none more so than their historic Asia Cup T20 win over India at home. They carried their good form into the Ireland series in August in two highly competitive games, albeit the series ended with a 1-1 scoreline. Sri Lanka have historically under-performed in the T20 world event, not having qualified into the knockout stage once since the tournament's inception in 2009.

Coming into this edition of the World Cup, they beat Bangladesh and Scotland comfortably in the warm-up games, bowling out the latter for only 58 runs.
