Dinesh Karthik officially announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Saturday (June 1). Karthik last played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2024 Eliminator last month, and last represented India in the 2022 T20 World Cup group game against Bangladesh.

"I've been overwhelmed by the affection, support and love I have received in the last few days. My deepest gratitude and sincere thanks to all the fans who have made this feeling possible," Karthik said in his retirement note posted on X. "Having given it plenty of thought for some time now, I have decided to move on from playing representative cricket. I officially announce my retirement and put my playing days behind me as I square up for the new challenges that lie ahead."
After RCB's loss in the Eliminator, knocking them out of IPL, Karthik received a guard of honour from his teammates making the retirement imminent. The wicketkeeper-batter later confirmed the same to Cricbuzz,
